Evolera Skylounge & Bar is a rooftop bar located at the 22nd floor of Zealax Hotel & Residence. Apart from developing full visual identity from the scratch including the naming for the skybar with my teammates, I created full UX/UI design for digital menu that the clients can access from all devices.
Problem
Evolera will be serving cuisine from all over the world, providing dining experience to its customers. The menu has to be constantly adapting to new trends and availability of the items but also, the Skybar wants to set a new standard for fine dining in Myanmar. Having a regular menu or PDF doesn't allow you to make the changes so easily and fast - you have to keep in mind the printing costs or design adaptation. Also, you cannot keep track of the availability of the dishes and drinks at the very moment.
Solution
Create an easily adaptable mobile-first web app menu that allows you to order and book a table directly from your phone or tablet in the restaurant. The app is responsive across all devices, integrated with internal POS and the items can be changed effortlessly by the staff.
My Responsibilities
UX/UI Design (Main designer), Visual Identity (Collaboration)
Our challenge was to develop a full visual identity including naming, logo design and collateral. We started with brainstorming for name that aims to define a new standard of the bar and dining space. We came up with the name EVOLERA that combines letters from “Evolution” and “Era”.
The next step was to combine the name with a luxury feeling in a visual, representative way. We developed a full logo along with the symbol to be used across all aspects of the visual identity of Evolera. The logotype combines the star symbol that can be used separately as a variation with a high-end typeface in the logotype.
Visual Identity
The identity is inspired by the clean, crisp and slightly adventurous design used in modern and minimal styles, with a touch of Great Gatsby luxury. It creates harmony between sans serif and serif font and as well as contrast in the combination of primary and accent colours of night sky.
We created business cards, email signatures, newsletter design, social media covers and images and brandbook.
Idea
In order to develop a WebApp that consumers can access from their devices in the restaurant, we started to work closely with the client in order to understand the target audience, expectations, goals, necessary functionalities, problems and integration.
Problem
The menu has to be constantly adapting to new trends and deliveries but also, the Skybar wants to set a new standard for fine dining in Myanmar. Having a regular menu or PDF doesn't allow you to make the changes so easily and fast - you have to keep in mind the printing costs or design adaptation. Also, you cannot keep track of the availability of the dishes and drinks at the very moment.
Goal
Create an easily adaptable mobile-first Web App Menu that allows you to order and book a table directly from your phone or tablet in the restaurant. Apart from that, we have to make it integrated with the internal POS system to keep track of the orders coming from each table, consistent with the visual identity and responsive across devices.
Research and Ideation
After a discovery call with the client, we gather information about business needs and expectations for the menu. We knew that only a PDF or printed menu won't be enough for this project. We did our research within the restaurant market and global food delivery apps that were our benchmarks. We talked through our ideas with the client and developers, and decided to continue with web application that is more adaptable than a native app.
User Flow and Wireframes
After the ideation stage and having collected data about the functionalities that needed to be included, I started to work on the user flows and wireframes of the product. It was the stage where the idea started to have more visual aspects and the user experience could be validated and adjusted through testing within the team.
I focused on the mobile version of the app as being the one that will be used the most. The digital menu is designed for all devices - only the desktop version won't have the possibility to order items since the user needs to scan a QR code in the restaurant.
Colour Palette, Typography and UI
Once the wireframes and user flow were tested and approved, we created two different options for look and feel to show to the client. We combined both of the approaches and created a prototype of the digital menu using colours and typography below. After presenting two types of look and feel approaches, we designed the UI of the digital menu.
Final Solution
Following the brand guidelines and look and feel, we created a complete prototype of the digital menu. After the testing and approval the mobile version, we also adapted the design for tablet and desktop versions.
The menu allows you to order for yourself or for the whole table, after scanning the QR code connected to the table number. Without it, you cannot make the purchase for now. You can add more items to the cart, book a table, search for a specific ingredient or see upcoming events in the skybar.
